Plastic surgery procedures, are they really what they show on TV

While zapping on TV last night I caught some minutes of a reality show where the host is a fancy cosmetic surgeon in Beverly Hills. I do not really dig that kind of TV too much, but since there was nothing more interesting on, I decided to give it a try.

I was not surprised when they showed the good doctor’s house. This is a good moment to remember that cosmetic surgery had during 2005 total revenue of 10 billion dollars. Now I get it.

But what I was most flabbergasted at was when they showed the patients. They were happy all the time. Of course after the surgery. Before, they could not even live with themselves. But after the surgery, everything in their lives seemed to fall in place for them in a magical way.

It was almost funny how the doctor would repeat over and over “This is very good, perfect. You are just fine now”, and other sentences of encouragement, referring to the outcome of the Plastic surgery procedures. All I could see were suffering women in pain. Their faces or their breast swollen, almost beyond recognition. You could see they were in pain. But they would smile stupidly, saying thank you thank you. Of course they fail to show those cases of adverse side effects that require new Plastic surgery procedures to correct, or those cases in which the implants encapsulate generating a very painful situation, again, corrected with surgery.
